Round Robin Photo Challenge - "Not of This Season"

This is the latest entry for the Round Robin Photo Challenge - "Not of This Season". A sprinkler is like a magnet for the neighborhood kids on a hot summer afternoon. This particular drive is covered with ice and slush at this moment.

Round Robin Photo Challenge - Camera Resolutions

This is my first entry in the Round Robin Photo Challenge. The theme is Camera Resolutions, but by doing this, I'm already meeting one of my own New Year's Resolutions - which is to start taking more photos and not just on special occasions; and to start posting my photos on the web (for more than just ordering prints!) Hopefully this will help me become a better photographer and get me back into a hobby that I have neglected for the last several years.

This photo's theme is "New", whether it's Happy New Year, welcome new baby, all that's old is new again, etc. etc. you get the idea.

My other suggestions for themes are:

2) Joy - whatever brings you joy, others showing joy

3) Defeat - as in "the agony of defeat"

Thanks everyone!

It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"

Another image from my walkabout around The Ohio State University campus. This is an entrance to McPherson laboratory. They preserved the original entryway with its intricate carvings and symbols. They just don't make buildings this way anymore.

You can't stay in your corner of the forest, waiting for others to come to you; you have to go to them sometimes.

In the beginning...

... I thought and I thought of how to start my first blog post, but finally gave up.

I've had a camera in my hand or nearby for every significant moment in my life, as well as a lot of insignificant ones too. So over the years, I've come to see the world as if I'm looking through the lens of my camera.

But most of my favorite images are ones that have meaning beyond what you can see, which is how it should be I guess. Like the one of my son sitting at the bottom of the stairs. To the casual observer, it's just a picture of another cute kid, taken by another shutter-crazed mom. But to me...well...to me, it's my heart and soul contained in the body of my son, blowing kisses and telling me he loves me on a random Tuesday afternoon.

The image above came about during a photo "walkabout" of The Ohio State University campus. I was focusing on architecture, but couldn't resist a huge bank of daylilies in brilliant bloom. It's my favorite image that I shot that day. Funny how those kind of random moments end up working out so well!

“I don't see much sense in that," said Rabbit.
"No," said Pooh humbly, "there isn't. But there was going to be when I began it. It's just that something happened to it along the way."
